The Healing

I love to play among the stars
And visit with the night.
I seek to learn their mysteries
Before the morning light.

I've come to know the darkness well;
It's secrets are my own.
It helps me find the keys to life
When I am all alone.

So many days and years we've spent,
A thousand words we've shared...
A million supplications while
My heart and soul were bared.

My prayer was always "Search me, Lord"
So Truth could be revealed.
The lifelong wounds I carried would
Eventually be healed!

Persistence or tenacity -
I never did let go!
I asked until God answered me,
And now - within - I know:

There comes a time when all the weight
Of issues old and worn
Must find a way to loose their grip,
And from the heart be shorn.

I finally found the places where
Defeatist thoughts reside.
I laid ahold of FAITH, and reached
The strength I have inside.

The helping hands that held me up,
Each in their unique way,
Have showered me with love and light
To bring forth this new day!

What joy!  Sweet liberty is mine!
I see the world anew.
The colors of our Mother Earth
Are such a brighter hue!

At last I spread my arms like wings
And welcome each new dawn.
No longer shackled in despair,
I boldly travel on!

I used to look out from behind
A film of gloom and fear.
The whispers of life's lovely things
Were oh, so hard to hear.

But now I'm free to look upon
Such beauty in the midst!
My heart is new, my soul revived;
My spirit has been kissed!

The road was dismal, and so long
That led me to this place.
I never thought I'd feel the warmth
Of sunlight on my face.

In brave defiance of the old,
I let the dead be dead.
With strength renewed, I gladly walk
The path that lies ahead!

To all the healers, nurturers and care-givers who have extended
love and succor to me, I offer my deepest gratitude.
You have picked me up and given me back to myself.
May God bless you, and multiply your kindness to you.
